Erasing the Past, Building the Future - Liberty Tattoo Removal photography exhibit
This selection of photographs and interviews by Janet Allenspach shares the stories of local people involved in the Liberty Tattoo Removal Program. It will be exhibited at Allan Hancock College Gallery, Santa Maria, from April 26th, 2011, until May 25th, 2011. Most participants are ex-gang members, who are changing their physical appearance, and in the process, their lives through the tattoo removal process. This exhibit showcases the determination and willingness of a vulnerable population who just want to belong and be treated fairly. They want to be better role models for their children and they want to be accepted by their neighbors. Their stories have seldom been heard outside their closed circle, and by sharing them, our goal is to foster understanding and acceptance of our fellow human beings. These are stories of redemption, forgiveness and acceptance.
