Annual Health Fair at Arroyo Grande High - Thursday November 17

Project Teen Health ParticipantProject Teen Health, a program of Community Action Partnership, announces their annual Health Fair at Arroyo Grande High School to be held Thursday, November 17th from 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. One thousand students are expected to attend this innovative event. Yoga Village and CrossFit Five Cities will be among the community partners who promote exercise with their interactive exhibits demonstrating Yoga poses and CrossFit workouts.  Jamba Juice and Cal Poly’s STRIDE program will encourage healthy eating with food tastings, while HEALSLO will surprise students about the shocking sugar facts in commonly consumed beverages in their “Rethink Your Drink” presentation.  Community Health Centers of the Central Coast will host a booth promoting their on-campus health clinic, and Project Teen Health will promote their free one-on-one nutrition consulting services provided at the Arroyo Grande High School campus clinic.

Now in its second year, Project Teen Health’s on-campus afterschool exercise and nutrition program is making an impact on the lives of students by encouraging healthy lifestyle options.  Participants exercise with local fitness businesses such as CrossFit Five Cities, Yoga Village, and Equilibrium Fitness who donate their time to lead classes. In addition to exercise, students learn about healthy food choices through weekly presentations and food tastings organized or lead by Project Teen Health staff and community partners like HEALSLO and Cal Poly’s nutrition students. Project Teen Health offers fall, winter and spring 6-week Boot Camps.

Community Health Centers (CHC) has provided funding for the last six years so that Community Action Partnership can provide obesity prevention programs at Arroyo Grande High School. CHC On-campus Clinic and Community Action Partnerships’ Project Teen Health program are offered at no-cost to the participants.
