Energy Services awarded Proclamation for Energy Awareness Day
In honor of Energy Awareness Day, Supervisor Jim Patterson of San Luis Obispo County presented a proclamation to Fran Coughlin, Board President and Jim McNamara, Director of Energy Services of Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County on November 17th, 2011 at the monthly Community Action Partnership Board meeting in recognition of the agency’s achievements in providing weatherization services to lower income households and seniors throughout San Luis Obispo County.
Weatherization program services are designed to lower utility bills, increase comfort in the home and improve health and safety by eliminating energy-related hazards. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, it is estimated that the impact of weatherization on communities reduces a household’s annual gas heating consumption by 32% and expected to save $358 on their first year's utility bills, which is especially beneficial for low-income households. In 2010, Community Action Partnership weatherized 2,202 homes in San Luis Obispo County. In addition, Community Action Partnership weatherized 492 homes in Santa Barbara County and 929 in Monterey County as well. . Because energy improvements that make up weatherization services are long lived, the savings add up over time to substantial benefits for weatherization clients and their communities, as well as the nation as a whole.
