Pursuant to Section 1596.859 of the Health and Safety Code, parents have the right to receive information regarding any substantiated or inconclusive complaint about licensed child care providers.

That information is public and can be acquired by visiting the California Department of Social Services' Internet Web site at http://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/Community-Care-Licensing/Facility-Search-Welcome.

We encourage families to visit several programs to find the best fit. To learn about a program’s history, including licensing violations or complaints please contact Community Care Licensing at (844) 538-8766.

*Quality Counts*

California counties have developed Quality Rating and Improvement Systems (QRIS) to review early care and education programs using agreed upon, standards of care that help identify strengths and areas for improvement in family home and center-based child care facilities.

The San Luis Obispo County QRIS (called the Quality Counts Program) began in 2015. Though it is a new program, 21% of the county’s licensed child care programs have made a formal commitment to continuous quality improvement.

Rating facilities does not replace the need for you to personally interview the providers, contact references, research their licensing history on the Community Care Licensing website at http://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/Community-Care-Licensing/Facility-Search-Welcome, and visit to observe them working with children. For additional information or support, please contact our Resource and Referral Department at 888-727-2272.
